How to convert a bank statement PDF to Excel

Drop the PDF. Ledgermoor reads each page's text and positions, finds the rows that start with a date and carry an amount, joins wrapped descriptions, works out money in and money out (from separate columns, signs, CR/DR or the running balance) and checks that opening balance + transactions = closing balance. Download Excel, CSV or OFX.

Are my statements uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser: Mozilla's pdf.js reads the PDF and, for scanned pages, Tesseract OCR reads the image. That makes it safe for client statements and anything you can't send to an upload site.

Which banks does it work with?

It reads the layout, not a list of banks: a date at the start of the row and amounts in columns. It handles US and UK/EU date orders, comma or point decimals, separate debit/credit columns, signed amounts, CR/DR and amounts in brackets. Always look at the balance check; if it says "needs a look", the highlighted rows show where.

Why not DocuClipper or CapyParse?

They are mature services with bank-specific templates, and they charge per page and process files on their servers: DocuClipper is $20/month billed yearly for 60 pages, CapyParse $24/month (their pricing pages, 1 Oct 2026). Ledgermoor Pro is $15/month with no page cap, or $5 for a 7-day pass, and statements stay on your device.

Is this accounting or tax advice?

No. Ledgermoor is a file conversion tool. Check the output against your statement before you rely on it.
